We had an amazing time with the hosts - Saitou-san and Yasuko-san. The kominka is very comfortable with all the modern amenities. The breakfast, lunch and dinner were changed every meal and it was delicious and presented beautifully by Yasuko-san, with help from Saitou-san. Saitou-san was very gracious in picking us from and dropping off as well at Jomo-kogen Shinkansen station. They also took us bird-watching to Tanbara wetlands and also showed us a beautiful biosphere near Jomo-kogen. And the experiences of rice harvesting, potato harvesting and tilling the field with the tractor was very enjoyable. Yasuko-san taught us how to make konjak, Ura maki rolls, onigiri, and mochi. And they turned out delicious! Thank you both, Saitou-san and Yasuko-san for your amazing hospitality!

Moto-San & yasuko-San were so generous with their time, attention and care during our stay. We couldn’t have asked for better host or experience. The effort they put in to make you feel welcomed and well fed was unbelievable. We would 100% go back if we visit Gunma again. Highly recommended.

I visited with my 2 children, a 4 year old boy and 8 year old girl from California, USA. Highly recommend to visit this place - the accommodation is beautiful/comfortable and the hosts are incredibly kind and fun people that my kids and I are grateful to have met. The 2 days was a highlight of our 3 week trip to Japan, and was a great authentic experience (in contrast to our mostly touristy trip).

The house is a lovely snapshot of history: beautiful wooden floors, paper sliding doors, and antiques. The floor futons and thick blankets are very comfortable and we had good sleep both nights. The provided homemade breakfast and dinner cooked by Yatcha-san was a great change from many days of eating out, and my kids loved it.

The experiences were fantastic (farming and onigiri), and the hosts went above and beyond to connect with us and provide a perfect experience for our entire stay. As I was a solo Mom traveling with 2 kids, we did tractor riding, fed the house goat, and the kids just had fun playing with the various equipment. Moto-san was so wonderful with the kids, and they both adored him and were vying for his attention. Moto-san and Yatcha-san also brought us to a fantastic playground and we all had a lot of fun.

Totally enjoyed our stay with Moto-san and Yasuko-san. The host was friendly and thoughtful. While it might appear that there is a lack of activities in winter, the host curated a series of activities for us. We had Kimono-dressing, wood-chopping, jelly and bread making, as well as snow clearing. They also showed us around the nearby town and brought us to the temple for making New Year wish.

During meals, traditional Japanese was served. The food was sumptuous and nicely laid-out. It is one of the best food we had in Japan. Yasuko-san was also generous in explaining to us how the food was prepared. The host even gifted us ingredients and jams.

A perfect rural place with the most fantastic host.

Moto San showed us the most wonderful time in Numata. He picked us up from the train station and made a stop on the way back to first show us a beautiful view of the autumn colors and then to walk us through the local market, where he explained many of the local treats and produce in the store. Over dinner he constantly presented us with so many local delights - smoked pickled carrots, brie cheese, and chestnuts from his garden.

His house was gorgeous - very traditional and cozy. We so enjoyed learning from him about his perspectives on life and sharing ideas from our culture. His generosity knows know limits. In the morning, he prepared us a fantastic breakfast with so many items from his garden. He cares deeply about the quality of his ingredients and sent us home with a heavy bag of freshly harvested potatoes from his garden. We also went on a nice walk around the neighborhood and fed Mei Mei apples and kabocha. His cats were also very friendly.

We absolutely recommend a stay with Moto San - you won't forget it. It was one of the most memorable nights of our trip. You won't find something this special anywhere else - it was a one of a kind experience.
