After an adventurous drive on a narrow road winding itself to the top of the mountain range, we arrived inside the clouds and received a warm welcome with freshly baked mochi, an excellent dinner and very enjoyable company from our hosts and their son.
The next day we had a pleasant walk down the hill along the tea shrubs, saw some monkeys and learned a lot about the Yokai (monsters from Japanese folklore tales warning for the dangers of the mountains). We enjoyed the Yokai and stone museum and were amazed about the selection of rare stones, pieces of meteorite and dinosaur eggs.
On our second evening we enjoyed the amazing view from the house, learned how to make soba noodles and had a fantastic dinner with mountain sushi and tempura.
As a family with two teenagers we enjoyed the whole experience, to be immersed in mountain life, getting to know a local family and learn a lot about living in these extreme mountains. The food was amazing, and it was the family with their generous hospitality that made our stay beyond expectations.
