I loved seeing the Japanese way of life, and the structure and experience of staying in a traditional japanese home. It was a very insightful, humbling and interesting experience. I definitely recommend it to everyone.
Staying in the Japanese countryside in a Japanese home is something I highly recommend. This experience in particular was great because of our host, Araki-san. She made us feel welcome in Echizen before we even entered her home. And at night, we ate a dinner of local foods with her and some of her friends. We learned so much about her life and her friends’ lives, along with Echizen and Fukui culture. The farm stay felt very personal and made me appreciate different, smaller aspects of Japanese culture. You can find hotels in any city in Japan, but you can’t find a hotel that will give you an experience like this. I highly recommend staying at “Wan de en” if you come to Echizen or Fukui. Araki-san is an amazing person with a beautiful, traditional home that she graciously opens to everyone.
I had a wonderful experience with Stay Japan. The farm house was adorable and staying in the countryside was unique. Unlike hotels, this home was felt warmer. We shared meals and spent lots of time talking. It was an interactive stay and I learned a lot about Japan.
"Araki-san is probably the best cook you will find around. I was in love with the homemade kimchi we had for dinner. Then, the next morning, she whipped out two handmade jams for breakfast. Do I need to spell out how delicious it was?
For the night, you can shower at her place or she could drive you to the onsen. We took her offer and got to soak in the hot water to wash away the cold. It was such a fabulous place to spend my weekend at. Araki-san will make you want to return to Fukui and specifically her home."
